panel-at-goshen-libraryMystery and Suspense authors, Peggy Gaffney, Edith Maxwell/Tace Baker/Maddie Day and Jane Haertel/Suzanna Hardy/Sadie Hartwell spoke to a group at the Goshen, Connecticut Public Library as part of a celebration of the library winning a one thousand dollar grant from Sisters In Crime. All the authors are members of that group.

Peggy Gaffney writes suspense for the dog lover with her Kate Killoy Mystery series. Edith Maxwell writes  The Country Store Mysteries as Maddie Day, The Quaker Midwife Mysteries under Edith Maxwell, and the Quaker Linguistics Professor Mysteries as Tace Baker. Suzanna Hardy is the name under which Jane Haertel writes her Greek to Me culinary mysteries and Sadie Hartwell is the name under which she writes her Tangled Web Mysteries.

The classic question to all the authors was “where do you get your ideas.” It was fun for each author to share with the audience how she used her unique background to create the series. The most enjoyable part was describing how each chose which character to murder and how many are based on real people who have over the years annoyed them. Peggy Gaffney pointed out that if you irritate a mystery author, she’ll get great joy out of murdering you–even if it is only between the pages of her book.

Everyone seemed to have a good time, and were later able to buy books by the authors and get them autographed.
